The first Charles Baker released in 1.5L magnum format!
Always fruit aromatics, never savoury. Some tropical richness, fleshy yet with wet rock promising depth and length on the palate. Riesling to the core, intense, vibrant, ripe citrus, melon, and stoney. Modest residual sugar balances out taught acid and body. Long finish, never cloys, firmer and deeper as time progresses.
This vintage is dedicated to Bob, the vigneron of this fine vineyard, the on we call Ivan, who literally never lost his head throughout this turbulent growing year.
A cool long spring with April snow began with bud-break a week beyond the norm and compounded by uneven flowering. Odd bunches grew through the drought summer that eventually changed to August rains. Decisions to pick historically early to avoid disease pressure were made and coincidentally, late autumn hail was avoided.
All said, a growers vintage where nimble actions led to complete wines.
